MINNEAPOLIS - The Hennepin County Medical Examiner identified the body pulled from the Mississippi River as that of University of Minnesota student David Miller.

Miller, who was from St. Peter, Minnesota, went missing a week ago.

His body was found Wednesday near the Ford Parkway Bridge.

A rower discovered it and called authorities early Wednesday morning.

The cause of his death is pending further investigation.

The University of Minnesota released a statement Thursday night after receiving the news.

"We are deeply saddened to learn of the death of David Miller, a College of Biological Sciences student, who has been missing since Tuesday, May 10. Our thoughts are with David’s family, friends, classmates, and others in the University community who are grieving. The University of Minnesota Police Department appreciates the support from several local agencies in searching for David during the last week."

Danita Brown Young, the vice provost for student affairs and dean of students, said counseling services will be available to any students that need it. Services are available for in-person, individual appointments at Boynton Health Service and Student Counseling.

Walk-ins are welcome between 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. A U of M 24/7 crisis line is also available at 612-301-4673.

"This is a difficult and sad time for our University community," Young said. "David will be missed by many."
