Police standoff ends in Burnsville

An armed standoff that stretched out for nearly 12 hours near Burnhaven Drive and McAndrews Road in Burnsville ended peacefully Thursday morning.

BURNSVILLE, Minn. - A standoff involving an armed man in a vehicle in Burnsville was resolved peacefully Thursday morning after nearly 12 hours.

Burnsville police evacuated a Costco in Burnsville just before 5:30 Wednesday night as officers responded to a report of a suicidal man with a gun parked in the store’s parking lot. They found the suspect's vehicle located near the Costco gas station. The man told police he had a gun. Police say they evacuated the store, the parking lot and parts of nearby neighborhoods.

Authorities tell KARE 11 that the situation was peacefully resolved around 5 a.m. with no shots being fired. Roads are now reopened, and Costco employees who usually report to work around 4:30 a.m. are inside the building.

Officers are asking people to stay away from the area near Burnhaven Drive and McAndrews Road.

Police say they're negotiating with the man and hope to have a "peaceful resolution."
