CAMBRIDGE, Minn. - Cambridge-Isanti Schools were closed Wednesday as police and district officials investigated what they called a potential threat.

The district posted on Facebook that it became aware of a rumored threat and did not have time to fully investigate it, so the decision was made to call off class.

Early Wednesday afternoon the district updated the situation, saying there has been no credible threat identified. Still, as a matter of caution, all evening classes and activities have also been canceled.

'We have received overwhelming support from our community as we take precautionary safety measures," read the post on the district website. "We remain grateful for the shared commitment our staff, students, families and community possess for helping to keep students safe."

At 2:30 p.m., the district provided an update stating "the investigation of a rumored, potential threat is still ongoing. We have not identified any credible threats."

During a 5 p.m. news conference, district officials and law enforcement announced they found no evidence of a credible threat against students or staff. The message, according to authorities, was vague in nature and originated on Snapchat. Several students were interviewed as part of the investigation, which law enforcement says is mostly complete.

"We treat all potential threats seriously. We always make school safety a priority," said Superintendent Dr. Ray Queener.

Classes are expected to resume as normal on Thursday.
