RICHFIELD, Minn. — At Local Roots in Richfield, it was business as usual.
Meanwhile, in the back of the restaurant, Cynthia Kuntz prepares her fundraiser, Crayons for Cancer. She invited people in to help peel and sort crayons to help create colorful creations made from the wax of the old crayons.
"People donate to buy one," said Kuntz, gesturing to the bright creations in little plastic bags.
All donations from the day's fundraiser go to Minneapolis Children's Hospital.
"Fun little project. It's really nice," said Barb Epstein.
Every month Cynthia coordinates similar events as a way to pay it forward, and as a way to remember her son.
"We're doing this because Jonathan always was a giver. He would give you the shirt off his back," said Kuntz.
More than two years ago Jonathan was shot and killed in a drive-by shooting. To this day, both Cynthia and investigators continue to look for answers.
This past week a reward for information increased from $25,000 to $50,000.
"Can't grieve if you don't know why and who did this. That's our biggest question and that's why the reward was raised.
Sunday's fundraiser helps keep the case in the spotlight, and helps share Jonathan's story.
