ST PAUL, Minn. — The Como Park Zoo announced the arrival of the first ever tufted puffin chick to hatch at the zoo on Friday.
Parents Bug and Rocky welcomed the yet-unnamed chick on July 31st. It was born weighing 57 grams, and thanks to a steady diet of smelt and herring has already grown to 171 grams.
The baby will be burrowing off-exhibit for the next 5-6 weeks, just like it would in the wild. It will then be making it's debut to the public.
Como Park Zoo has been exhibiting puffins since 1987.
More information on the new baby is available from Como Park Zoo here.
