Costco to build distribution center in Owatonna

The 354,000 square-foot distribution center will be the company's first in Minnesota

OWATONNA, Minn — Costco Wholesale Corporation will soon be distributing out of Minnesota.

According to Owatonna Community Development Director Troy Klecker, Costco is planning to build a 354,000 square foot distribution center and construction will begin as early as next week.

It will be Costco's first distribution center in Minnesota.

Klecker said the location of the new center is at the northeast corner of 18th St. SW and 39th Ave SW, just north of Kibble Equipment.

The first Costco warehouse opened in 1983 in Seattle and became the first company to grow to $3 billion in sales in less than six years. In 1993, Costco merged with Price Club, a former competitor of Costco and one of the very first warehouse stores.

Costco has nine locations around the Twin Cities.
