ST. PAUL, Minn. - Four people are now charged in the robbery and brutal beating of a deaf man in St. Paul.
Ramsey County prosecutors filed criminal complaints against the defendants, Michael Dewayne Bordeaux, Rianot Nikky Nelson, Tanisha Wilson and Brandon Anderson, charging them with aggravated robbery. Bordeaux was also charged with assault.
St. Paul Police were called to 430 North Wabasha Street Wednesday night after someone reported an assault. They found the victim, a 35-year-old man who cannot hear or speak, bloodied with a severe laceration to this head. The victim communicated to police that he had been assaulted by people he knew from the Dorothy Day Center.
Investigators say the defendants saw the victim walking by Wells Fargo Place when they pushed him into a doorway and severely beat and kicked him. The group went through his pockets and backpack while the beating sent on for several minutes. Prosecutors say videotape shows Bordeaux hitting the deaf man over the head several times with a liquor bottle..
Anderson and Wilson both told police they were drunk and didn't remember what happened. When a sergeant showed Wilson the video she said she had been trying to break up the fight. Bordeaux told detectives he was friendly with the victim, and often conversed with him.
