SOUTH PADRE ISLAND, Tex. - Accused murderer and Minnesota native Lois Riess was ordered held without bond during as she was arraigned in a south Texas courtroom Saturday.
More significant was the order that the 56-year-old Riess will be extradited to Florida before she returns to her home in Minnesota for legal proceedings. She is already charged with murder for the shooting death of 59-year-old Pamela Hutchinson. Police say she killed Hutchinson to steal her credit cards, vehicle and her identity. Authorities there have promised to prosecute Riess to the fullest extent of the law, and may seek the death penalty.
Riess has not yet been charged in Minnesota, but authorities are assembling a case in the fatal shooting of her husband in March.
The subject of a nationwide manhunt, Riess was arrested Thursday in the lobby of a restaurant in South Padre Island, Texas after someone recognized her and called police. Investigators say they found two guns inside the motel room where she had been staying, once of which may be the weapon that killed both Hutchinson and David Riess.
