STILLWATER, Minn. - Dozens of car owners in Stillwater, Hudson and at least two other river communities are using their insurance policies after vandals went on a weekend shooting spree.
Stillwater police have received reports of at least 45 vehicles having windows shot out with a BB gun overnight Saturday into early Sunday, and overnight Sunday into early Monday. Stillwater Police Sergeant Steve Hansen says they believe the same group of vandals is also responsible for shooting out car windows in nearby Hudson, Lakeland and Oak Park Heights overnight Sunday into Monday.
Investigators are reviewing surveillance video that they believe could show a suspect's car, but it's hard to make out who is inside or the type of car.
"We're asking the community to look through surveillance videos and see if they have any activity related to this incident," said Hansen.
Investigators say they have not received reports of car windows shot out since Monday morning. They also say they have some leads but no arrests have been made just yet.
Hansen says the damage is far in excess of $15,000, meaning those responsible could be charged with felony-level damage to property.
Hudson Police say about 15 residents in their community suffered the same fate as those in Stillwater. Sergeant Glen Hartman says the suspects drove through several neighborhoods shooting out vehicle windows with a BB gun.
Video from a resident's surveillance system captured an image of the suspect vehicle, which appears to be a silver or light colored SUV. If you recognize this vehicle or know who is responsible for the vandalism spree, call Stillwater Police at 651-351-4900.
