MENOMONIE, Wis. - A couple sought in connection with what authorities are calling an attempted homicide is in custody after several days on the run.
The Dunn County Sheriff's Office says 34-year-old Shawn Harris Goplen and 36-year-old Kari Lynn Blank were arrested Thursday in Rice Lake, Wisconsin following a tip they were at the Dollar Store. When Deputies arrived the suspects fled in a Red Volkswagen Jetta that had been reported stolen from Woodbury, Minn., with law enforcement giving chase.
Pursuing deputies lost the Jetta at one point, but spotted it again while returning to the Dollar Store and Goplen and Blank were taken into custody without incident. They are being held at the Dunn County Jail in Menomonie.
One day earlier Deputies from Pierce County engaged in a high speed pursuit with the same Red Jetta. The chase extended into Pepin County, where it was eventually discontinued.
Goplen and Blank were considered armed and dangerous, wanted for their involvement in a shooting in Tainter Township. The victim, 48-year-old Bruce R. Sundstrom of rural Colfax, was an acquintence of the couple. Sundstrom was shot in the leg but is expected to survive his injuries.
