ST PAUL PARK, Minn. — An east metro teacher is charged with criminal sexual conduct after prosecutors say she engaged in a sexual relationship with a student.
A criminal complaint filed in Ramsey County lays out the allegations against 24-year-old Ann Margaret Bacon, who at the time of the alleged offense was a special education teacher at Tartan High School in Oakdale.
Prosecutors say a school administrator and a school resource officer were contacted by a person who reported that Bacon had sex with an 18-year-old student and also purchased alcohol for juveniles. The witness said she learned in July of 2023 that Bacon was drinking and smoking pot with minors, and regularly having sex with the 18-year-old student.
The witness said she reported the allegations to school officials but had no hard evidence to prove them.
Investigators say they spoke to the male student's former girlfriend, who told them that she found sexually explicit messages and nude pictures and videos of Bacon on his phone. When she confronted the student he allegedly told his ex that he and Bacon started having sexual relations in May of 2023, before he graduated from school.
When the alleged victim was questioned, police say he acknowledged being in Bacon's class during his senior year and told investigators he had sex with the defendant in her car, her apartment and at a local hotel. He said the two are now dating exclusively and that he stays at her St. Paul apartment.
The criminal complaint says investigators spoke to Bacon on Feb. 8 and after multiple denials, she reportedly admitted to being in a sexual relationship with the student after being confronted with images of her in a hotel room with him on May 8, 2023. She allegedly told them the two had sex in a Vadnais Heights hotel room on multiple occasions, and acknowledged the 18-year-old was one of her students when the sexual relationship began.
In a statement sent to to KARE 11 on Wednesday, Tartan High School Superintendent Christine Tucci Osorio confirmed Bacon resigned from her position at the district.
Minnesota law prohibits licensed educators from having sexual relations with a student at the school at which they are employed.
