Juveniles arrested following vehicle theft, crash in Edina

Police responded to reports of multiple people in a stolen Kia trying to take a pickup in Edina. Five juveniles were arrested after crashing on Highway 62.

Three juveniles are facing charges after allegedly crashing a stolen vehicle involved in the theft of another in Edina Tuesday.

EDINA, Minn. — Five juveniles are facing charges after being arrested following a vehicle theft and crash in Edina Tuesday morning. 

Edina police said squads were sent to the 5100 block of Abercrombie Drive around 6:45 a.m. after reports of a group of people attempting to steal a Toyota Tacoma pickup. The suspects were driving a black Kia that was determined to be stolen from Inver Grove Heights. 

While officers responded to the scene, suspects took off in both vehicles, driving at high rates of speed through residential neighborhoods in Edina. According to authorities, the pickup drove into St. Louis Park and was eventually recovered in Minneapolis. Suspects in the Kia crashed into another vehicle near the junction of Highway 62/Crosstown and Tracy Avenue. 

Police said that's when multiple juveniles jumped out of the stolen vehicle and attempted to flee. One suspect was arrested immediately by arriving officers, while additional law enforcement set up a perimeter and searched through tall grass and trees along the Crosstown. Eventually, police took four more juveniles into custody.  

Police say two of the suspects are 15 years old, one is 12, and one is 11 years old. The fifth would not provide any information about his identity.

Charges are pending against three suspects, and more charges may be filed against the other two.
