WINONA, Minn. — The man accused of killing Madeline Kingsbury, who was missing for weeks, will face a jury in Blue Earth County.
According to new court documents, Adam Fravel will begin his jury trial on Oct. 7 at the Blue Earth County Justice Center in Mankato.
This comes after a judge in June approved moving the case from Winona County. Fravel's defense team said in a motion that there would be a "reasonable likelihood that a fair trial cannot be had," due to the vast amount of media coverage and a public opinion survey.
The case stems from the death of Kingsbury, who was last seen on March 31 after dropping off her children at daycare while in the company of Fravel, who is the father of her children. He told investigators that the two of them went up to their apartment before he left to do errands, and when he returned, she was gone.
Fravel was arrested after a deputy discovered Kingbury's remains just a few miles from Fravel's childhood family home. Fravel is charged with first-degree murder.
The missing person case garnered significant public attention. Court documents from a Winona County judge about moving the case state that "Blue Earth County is best positioned to ensure the impartiality required for a fair trial."
