MINNEAPOLIS — A man was arrested Monday afternoon after police say 911 calls came in from people saying they heard a gunshot from a downtown apartment building.
Minneapolis Police Chief Brian O'Hara said the 911 calls started coming in at about 3 p.m. Officers began securing the scene and evacuating residents from the 10th floor. O'Hara said officers also heard a noise that sounded like gunfire while in the building.
The suspect started breaking through the wall between the apartment and hallway, O'Hara said and threw debris out the window in the rear of the building.
While distracted, O'Hara said the suspect was tased by the SWAT team and then arrested.
No shooting victims were found and O'Hara said no weapon was recovered, nor was there ballistic evidence. He was also the only person in the apartment.
O'Hara said the apartment was in "considerable disarray" and the police department is applying for a search warrant to do a more thorough search.
"The only crime that we have at this time that he would be booked for is property damage, however, the investigation continues," O'Hara said.
