Minneapolis police say it appears a man was carjacked and then shot near Loring Park early Friday.

MINNEAPOLIS — A man is fighting for his life after apparently being carjacked and shot overnight near Loring Park in Minneapolis.

Police said in a release that officers were dispatched to the 200 block of Oak Grove St. just before 2 a.m. on reports of a shooting. Arriving squads found a man suffering from apparent life-threatening gunshot wounds, and started lifesaving efforts until paramedics arrived. The victim was transported to Hennepin County Medical Center.

Investigators said early information suggests the victim was inside a vehicle when another individual pulled him out and stole it. While the vehicle was being taken shots were fired, and the victim was struck.

Images from the scene showed multiple evidence markers on the ground, likely indicating empty shell casings.

Police later located the stolen vehicle in St. Paul, and arrested a man inside. At this point it is unclear if he was responsible for the shooting.

The Minneapolis Forensic Team is processing evidence while detectives dig deeper into the circumstances surrounding the incident.
