Mohamed Aydarus Salad, 29, is charged with criminal vehicular operation - great bodily harm - gross negligence.

According to the criminal complaint, the 17-year-old victim was turning left on a green light, from Highway 7 onto Williston Road in Minnetonka. That is when she was struck by a vehicle driven by Salad.

The complaint states Salad was passing other vehicles on the right shoulder at a high rate of speed ahead of the crash, and that he was going 96 mph on the 55 mph road seconds before collision.

A CaringBridge site was set up for the victim, Lauren Elaine Olson, a Hopkins High School student. Her friend told KARE 11 she was seconds from home when the crash occurred.

According to the criminal complaint, Olson was in a coma for at least a week and in the hospital for a month.

Salad did not have driving privileges at the time of the crash, according to the complaint, but he was not under the influence of drugs or alcohol.

Salad's criminal history shows he has multiple convictions for driving after suspension and failing to drive with due care.
