MINNEAPOLIS -- A Minneapolis man has been charged in the September murder of a man who was walking home, according to Hennepin County Attorney Mike Freeman.
Jeremiah Elijah Blackwell, 20, was charged with second-degree murder in the shooting death of 36-year-old Eulalio Gonzalez-Sanchez.
Police say Gonzalez-Sanchez died as a result of multiple gunshot wounds. The incident happened on the 2200 block of 7th Street Northeast shortly after Gonzalez-Sanchez got off a Metro Transit bus near his home.
On Oct. 2, police pulled over a vehicle in which Blackwell and another man were riding. Police seized a handgun that was later matched to the bullets and shell casings recovered by police in Gonzalez-Sanchez's murder, according to authorities.
"This is a good piece of police work, using all the technology available, to bring some closure to the family and friends of Eulalio Gonzalez-Sanchez," Freeman said. "While it took more than two months to bring charges, investigators were methodically working the case and we look forward to bringing Mr. Blackwell to justice."
