MINNEAPOLIS — Minneapolis Police are investigating after a man in his 20s died following a shooting at an after-hours party in Minneapolis on New Year's Day.

Officers were sent to 42nd Ave. N. and Lyndale Ave. N. around 3:40 a.m. Sunday after "multiple reports of a shooting," according to a news release.

Officers found a man in his 20s in a car with gunshot wounds. Police said the man was being driven to the hospital, but was treated at the scene before being by ambulance to North Memorial Medical Center, where he later died.

Police said the shooting was at a building at 4430 Lyndale Ave N that had been rented for an after-hours party.

"Preliminary information indicates that a verbal altercation between individuals who knew each other escalated to gunfire," police said.

Officers said they "managed a large crowd and chaotic scene" and found three guns in the area after clearing the building.

Around three hours later, a man in his 40s with a gunshot wound that was not life-threatening took himself to North Memorial Medical Center. Police said early information indicated the man was shot at the same party.

According to the release, no arrests have been made. The Hennepin County Medical Examiner will release the victim's name, along with the cause and nature of death, at a later date.
