MINNEAPOLIS — A man who was found with gunshot wounds in north Minneapolis Monday has died, according to the Hennepin County Medical Examiner.
The ME identified the victim as 27-year-old Abdi Omar Abukar of Minneapolis and determined Abukar died from complications of gunshot wounds.
The Minneapolis Police Department says officers first responded to a ShotSpotter activation on the 500 block of Knox Avenue North Monday, Dec. 12 around 10 p.m.
When officers arrived, according to a police spokesperson, they found a man, now identified as Abukar, unconscious in the driver's seat of a vehicle and suffering from gunshot wounds. Life-saving efforts were administered until paramedics arrived, who then transferred Abukar to HCMC.
Abukar was hospitalized until Thursday when authorities say he died from his injuries.
Police say their preliminary investigation revealed a man ran and a vehicle drove away from the scene of the shooting around the time shots were fired, but no arrests have been made.
