MINNEAPOLIS — Minneapolis police are trying to determine the sequence of events that led to a man being struck and killed by a slow-moving truck in Minneapolis early Wednesday.

A news release says squads responded to a gas station near the intersection of 2nd Ave. SE and Hennepin Ave. E around 2:30 a.m. on reports of a hit-and-run incident. Officers arrived at the scene and found a man lying in the street near the entrance. They said it was apparent the victim had been run over by a vehicle.

First responders declared the man dead at the scene.

At first, police said the death involved a hit-and-run but early Wednesday afternoon they issued an update, saying investigators now say the man walked in front of a slow-moving Hennepin County plow truck as it left the gas station parking lot.

The driver of the plow truck has been identified and is cooperating with investigators. He or she has not been arrested in the incident.

Minneapolis forensic team members were called in to collect evidence from the scene while homicide detectives and reconstruction specialists from the Minnesota State Patrol attempt to determine exactly what happened.

The victim's name and cause of death will be released once an autopsy is complete and family has been notified.
