MINNEAPOLIS - A 26-year-old man pleaded guilty Tuesday to the fatal stabbing of a man who was waiting for a train at the Lake Street station.
Anthony Bowker is expected to receive 25 years in prison for the second-degree murder of 58-year-old Gerald Davis on Dec. 6, 2014. Bowker admitted to police he intended to kill Davis when he stabbed him in the neck and chest.
According to an investigation, Bowker told his attorney he was under the influence of drugs and alcohol at the time of the incident. He also said he was committed to Hennepin County Medical Center in 2008 for treatment of mental illness.
According to the criminal complaint, a family member of Bowker told him Davis had threatened another family member. That upset Bowker, who was already carrying a knife. Video evidence shows Davis walking by Bowker's family, exchanging words and then walking up to the second level platform to wait for the train. Bowker then runs up to Davis and attempts to stab him but he's seen running away. Bowker eventually catches up to him and repeatedly stabs him. Davis then collapses and Bowker is seen kicking him in the head, according to the complaint.
Bowker will be sentenced on Nov. 9.
