MINNEAPOLIS — A Minneapolis man pleaded guilty on Monday to fatally shooting a 16-year-old last year in north Minneapolis.

The Hennepin County Attorney's Office announced on Wednesday that Andre Owens, 21, pleaded guilty to one count of second-degree murder and will be sentenced to 372 months in prison on Feb. 18.

On July 19, 2019, police were called to the area of Colfax Ave. North and 30th Ave. North where they found a 16-year-old male lying in the street with an apparent gunshot wound to his head, according to the complaint.

The victim was transferred to a local hospital where he was later pronounced dead. The autopsy showed that he died from a single shot to the head.

Owens was arrested on Aug. 15, 2019 after investigators were able to identify him as a suspect through video and witness reports. According the complaint, Owens was one of two suspects.

Officials say Owens admitted in a post-Miranda statement to being one of the shooters. He reiterated his part in the fatal shooting again on Monday in court.
