BLOOMINGTON, Minn. — A man arrested and charged in connection with a shooting at the Mall of America last summer will serve 117 days in the Hennepin County Workhouse.

Last April, Rashad May, 23, pleaded guilty to aiding an offender to avoid arrest, allowing for the charge of second-degree assault with a dangerous weapon to be dismissed.

The deal came after May and the suspected gunman, 21-year-old Shamar Lark, were arrested while leaving a barbershop together in Chicago last August. The pair was located about a week after the MOA shooting as a result of a nationwide search effort. At the time, both men were taken into custody without incident and later extradited back to Minnesota.

On Tuesday, Judge William H. Koch sentenced May to serve 120 days in the workhouse but had three days subtracted from his time served, according to court documents.

May also received a stayed sentence of 364 days in the workhouse. May would have to serve those 364 days if he failed the terms of his two-year probation.

May will begin his 117 days in the workhouse on July 11, according to court documents.
