MINNEAPOLIS — A Minneapolis man will spend the rest of his life in prison after he was found guilty of killing two men and injuring a woman in a shooting last year.
Immir Fyontane Rice, 25, was sentenced Thursday after a jury convicted him in the shooting deaths of Davante Reid and Khalil Bryant on Feb. 15, 2023 in Minneapolis.
“We are dedicated to aggressively prosecuting gun violence and doing the right thing to make our communities safer in each case,” Hennepin County Attorney Mary Moriarty said in a press release. “In this case, that meant prosecuting this case for what it was, a senseless, premeditated murder. Everyone who was impacted by this tragedy is in my thoughts today. I hope this outcome helps everyone in our community feel more safe.”
According to court documents, police were called to an apartment building on the 2800 block of Colfax Avenue South on reports of automatic gunfire. When officers arrived, they found a black SUV parked in front of the building with multiple bullet holed on the passenger side. Police say Bryant was found slumped over in the vehicle and 16 discharged 9mm casings.
Lavar-King Reid was found one block away in an apartment building where he was pronounced dead. Surveillance video showed Lavar-King Reid had run to the apartment building after being at the location where Bryant was found dead.
A woman, who was driving the black SUV, was also injured in the shooting and survived.
Investigators used surveillance video to pin Rice to the location where the deadly shooting occur. According to the criminal complaint, surveillance video captured Rice jogging toward the black SUV just minutes before shots were fired. Prosecutors said several surveillance videos also picked up audio of the gunfire.
