ROCHESTER, Minn. — A deputy with the Olmsted County Sheriff's Office is on paid administrative leave after being arrested and charged with three counts of sex crimes.

Matthew Richard Adamson, 44, is facing three charges related to sexual conduct with a child, including solicitation. The charges come after an undercover detective with the Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension began communicating with Adamson under the persona of a 13-year-old girl, according to court documents.

The criminal complaint says Adamson and the undercover detective began communicating online on Nov. 1. Adamson began the conversation by requesting the age and gender of the detective. After the detective said they were a 13-year-old girl, Adamson continued communication and allegedly offered to purchase alcohol in exchange for various sex acts, according to court documents.

Investigators said Adamson asked to meet the undercover detective at a specific location in Rochester on Nov. 2 at around 6:30 p.m. According to court documents, law enforcement surveilled Adamson leaving the Olmsted County Work Release Center and drive to the agreed upon meeting location. There, Adamson met with a decoy set up by law enforcement before being arrested.

While communicating with the undercover detective, Adamson allegedly initiated a second conversation with an undercover special agent with the BCA who was using an online persona of a 14-year-old girl. According to court documents, Adamson sent a picture of himself and asked the undercover special agent if they would be comfortable meeting in person.

Adamson is scheduled to appear in court Nov. 14.
