MINNEAPOLIS — One person has died and three others were injured after multiple people opened fire Tuesday afternoon in the Ventura Village neighborhood in Minneapolis.
According to the Minneapolis Police Department, the shooting occurred at around 1:30 p.m. near East Franklin Avenue and Chicago Avenue, an intersection MPD Chief Brian O'Hara said has been a "hotspot" for crime due to frequent narcotics and drug activity. Eight people were shot at the same intersection back in August.
"It's not just the individuals who have been affected by this shooting here, it's the people who live on these blocks where all too often the sound of gunfire is normal background noise," said Chief O'Hara.
On Tuesday, police say three of the victims were at the scene when officers arrived, including a 34-year-old man who was dead on scene. The other two victims, a man and a woman both 37 years old, were transported by ambulance to HCMC. Officials say the 37-year-old man suffered an "apparent life-threatening" gunshot wound, and the woman had non-life threating injuries.
A fourth victim self-transported to HCMC with an apparent non-life threating gunshot wound, according to officials.
Police have not announced any arrests as they continue to investigate what led up to the shooting.
Nick Patton, who works at an addiction treatment center two blocks away from the scene, said the latest shooting in his neighborhood "just breaks my heart."
"This is a community that's hurting. They're hurting," Patton said. "And the people on the streets are hurting too. I wish we could just find a way to stop all this."
