Parents believe 'beefs' amplified by social media livestreaming to blame for St. Paul shootings

Three people were wounded in a drive-by shooting — the third shooting of the holiday weekend to happen in and around the surrounding area.

SAINT PAUL, Minn — The latest shooting in St. Paul occurred at a 19th birthday party on Rose Avenue, where the adult couple living there said young children were present.

"They were on a trampoline, on the street, pushing babies in strollers," the 19-year-old's mother said. "And next thing you know, a car drove by and decided to open fire."

"The kids were just running around, screaming. It was just total chaos," the father said.

Three people were wounded in a drive-by shooting — the third shooting of the holiday weekend to happen in the surrounding area, where a graduation or birthday party gathering was taking place.

"I mean, honestly, what are these people thinking? There were children out here. Babies out here. And for them to do that, I don't understand it," the father said.

The parents, who agreed to talk as long as their faces weren't shown out of fear for retaliation, pointed out the collateral damage these shootings have caused.

"They hit the innocent bystanders — the children; women; people that had nothing to do with it whatsoever — they're the ones getting hurt, and they're the ones getting killed, and it doesn't make sense to me at all."

This couple believes the shooting stemmed from "beef" between young people that is then amplified when they go on Facebook Live and hurl insults at each other.

Something police are aware of.

"I mean, come on. There's got to be a better way. Honestly, there has to be a better way than this," he said.
