MINNEAPOLIS — Minneapolis Police are investigating a deadly shooting Wednesday evening in the Phillips community.

According to police, a man believed to be in his 30s, was shot just after 6 p.m. near a Marathon gas station on the 1700 block of East Lake Street.

In a press release, police said a 3rd Precinct sergeant was in the area at the time of the shooting, and actually heard a volley of shots fired. He moved to check out the scene, and within minutes a 911 caller also reported someone had been shot.

Dispatchers were told that the shooting suspect left the area in a vehicle, according to police.

Paramedics and officers responding to the scene worked to save the man, but he was pronounced dead. His identity will be released in the coming days by the medical examiner.

Police said their preliminary investigations show that the victim was outside the gas station when a car pulled up and the suspect got out and fired multiple rounds, hitting the victim at least once.

The suspect then fled the scene in the same vehicle they arrived in. Police said they do not believe this was a random act.
