14-year-old held in St. Paul homicide

Police say Tuesday night's fatal shooting is the 22nd homicide in St. Paul this year.

ST PAUL, Minn. — St. Paul police say a 14-year-old boy is in custody and awaiting homicide charges following a fatal shooting Tuesday evening on the 1200 block of Hazelwood Street.

According to police, officers were dispatched to the scene around 6 p.m. and when they arrived, they found a man in a pickup truck who had been shot in the head. The man was pronounced dead on the scene.

Witnesses who called police reported seeing a possible suspect running from the scene after shots were fired. Police set up a perimeter hoping to contain the suspect, and eventually a teen was stopped and taken to police headquarters to be interviewed. 

On Wednesday, St. Paul Police tweeted that the 14-year-old boy who was taken into custody was placed under arrest, and is now being held in the murder.

It's the 22nd homicide in St. Paul this year.
