Police: Shooting at Eden Prairie grocery store was an attempted robbery

A shooting in a grocery store parking lot that left one man with severe head trauma appears to have been an attempted robbery, according to the Eden Prairie Police Department.

GOLDEN VALLEY, Minn. - A shooting in a grocery store parking lot that left one man with severe head trauma appears to have been an attempted robbery, according to the Eden Prairie Police Department.

Authorities a 28-year-old suspect was arrested and could be charged with attempted second-degree murder, first-degree aggravated robbery and first-degree assault.

Eden Prairie Police responded to the incident around 5:09 a.m. Saturday in the parking lot of Jerry's Foods, 9625 Anderson Lakes Parkway. Upon arrival, officers found a man suffering from a gunshot wound to the head. The victim, a 58-year-old man from River Falls, Wis., was conscious when he was transported to Hennepin County Medical Center, where he remains hospitalized. A handgun was recovered near the victim, as well.

Investigators were later notified of a man being questioned by the Bloomington Police Department while walking along Highway 169 North. It was eventually determined that he was involved in the shooting.

Police say initial investigation reveals the shooting was the result of an attempted robbery.

The suspect is currently in custody at the Hennepin County Jail.
