Pregnant woman and 4 kids safe after being abducted at gunpoint, Amber Alert canceled

The Crow Wing County Sheriff's Office says a suspect is in custody and a 33-year-old woman and her children are safe.

BRAINERD, Minn. — Law enforcement near Brainerd says a pregnant woman and her four children are safe after they were allegedly abducted at gunpoint overnight.

The Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension (BCA) confirms that a suspect is in custody and a 33-year-old woman and her children - ages 14, 11, 7 and 3 - are safe. 

Crow Wing County deputies were dispatched on reports of a shooting around 1:50 a.m. at a residence on Loerch Road in Oak Law Township. When they arrived on the scene, deputies found 62-year-old Lyle Maske dead of an apparent gunshot wound. 

A 35-year-old suspect was quickly identified, and investigators learned from witnesses that the man allegedly arrived at the home where Dobson and her children were staying and fired a rifle into the ceiling before forcing her and the children to leave with him. 

Authorities issued an Amber Alert for the vehicle the suspect was driving and law enforcement located the minivan on a side road north of the Highway 371/10 split in Morrison County around 7:15 a.m. A traffic stop was conducted and the suspect was arrested without incident. 

The suspect, who KARE 11 is not identifying as he has not been formally charged, has an extensive criminal history that includes being convicted for criminal sexual conduct, burglary, motor vehicle theft and threats of violence.
