MINNEAPOLIS — A second defendant in the deadly shooting at the Mall of America back in 2022 was sentenced Monday to more than 30 years in prison.
Lavon Longstreet, who was 17 at the time, was sentenced to 367 months for his role in the shooting death of 19-year-old Johntae Hudson. The sentencing comes less than two weeks after TaeShawn Adams-Wright received the same sentence. Both Longstreet and Adams-Wright pleaded guilty to second-degree murder and second-degree assault.
“My thoughts go first to the victim and to their family and friends, who continue to suffer through the devastating loss of a loved one," said Hennepin County Attorney Mary Moriarty in a statement. "With the sentencing of Mr. Longstreet and his co-defendant, who killed one person and put the lives of many more at risk, we’ve now held both major actors accountable for Mr. Hudson’s death. These lengthy prison sentences reflect the severity of their actions and protect public safety.”
A criminal complaint in the case alleged Longstreet was involved in an altercation between two groups of teens when shots were fired inside Nordstrom, killing Hudson and injuring a woman. Court documents say that video captured Longstreet and Adams-Wright holding firearms with extended magazines running toward Hudson. At one point, the criminal complaint says Longstreet is seen on video pointing a gun at Hudson, and a muzzle flash is seen.
