Separate shootings leave 2 men dead in Mpls. and St. Paul

A man was found on the street with gunshot wounds in downtown Minneapolis Saturday night. Around an hour later, a man was shot in St. Paul's East Side.

A violent night in Minneapolis and St. Paul began just before 10:30 p.m. Saturday with a 911 call about a shooting near 8th Street and Hennepin Avenue.

When police officers got there they found a man in the street.

He was taken to a hospital where he later died.

Around an hour later, the St. Paul Police Department received calls about shots fired near Old Hudson Road and Earl Street.

When police officers arrived, they too found a man in the street. He was also taken to a hospital where he later died.

Thomas Valera lives in the area and is now keeping a close eye on his grandson.

"I just bought my grandson out here to come to the store and he was afraid. He said, 'Grandpa we saw this on the news last night are you sure we're okay?'" said Valera.

In the Minneapolis shooting, officers say that there was a "physical altercation between the victim and the suspect. The suspect shot the victim and then fled the scene in a car," according to a news release.

"There needs to be something done to fix it so people can come downtown and feel safe," said Jacob Toledo who owns several restaurants and bars in downtown Minneapolis.

Minneapolis police have arrested a 23-year-old man Sunday morning in relation to the shooting.

The victim has been identified as 21-year-old Enzo Santiago Herrera Garcia of Apple Vally, and the manner of death was ruled as homicide, according to the Hennepin County Medical Examiner.

In St. Paul, investigators say there are two bars nearby the shooting, and they are asking anyone who was in the area to call the Homicide Unit at 651-266-5650.

This is St. Paul's 22nd homicide this year and the eighth since Sept. 2, according to their news release.
