PLYMOUTH, Minn — A sexual assault investigation is underway involving students from a prestigious prep school in Plymouth.
Wayzata Police are investigating an incident that allegedly happened at a house party in that city. No one has been arrested yet, and since the investigation involves juveniles, many details will remain secret.
Providence Academy is a Catholic college prep school located on a 42-acre campus in Plymouth.
According to Wayzata Police, some students are under investigation for an alleged sexual assault.
Police received a phone call last Thursday from a concerned parent about a party they believed took place in mid-October at a Wayzata home involving underage drinking and a sexual assault.
The Wayzata police chief told KARE 11 News it is difficult looking into an allegation a month old, but that their investigation has revealed information that corroborates some accounts.
Providence administrators received the report the day before police and have conducted an internal investigation. They informed parents that while they don't police behaviors off-site, they investigate and respond to allegations of serious violations of their policies and Code of Conduct.
Providence Academy Headmaster Todd Flanders wrote a statement that says, in part:
The safety and protection of our students and community is a paramount priority at Providence Academy. The incident in question entailed serious violations of both our policies and our Code of Conduct. We took swift and decisive actions after our internal investigation... I am confident in the school's approach with each individual student. And everything is in keeping with our policies and Code.
The Wayzata Police Chief says Providence Academy has been very cooperative and helpful to the investigation, but police are still working to get some parents of students who may have been at the party to cooperate and help them get to the bottom of it.
