ST PAUL, Minn. — St. Paul police say they have arrested a 20-year-old man in the Oct. 23 shooting on the city's west side that claimed the life of David Lashawn Issac.
The arrest was announced on Nov. 17. Police say the suspect was taken into custody Thursday and is being held at the Ramsey County Jail pending charges.
Police spokesman Sgt. Mike Ernster said squads were dispatched shortly after midnight early Monday after a resident called 911 to report a person down behind an address on the 400 block of South Clinton Avenue. Officers arrived to find the 23-year-old Issac suffering from what appeared to be a gunshot wound. Paramedics responded, but he was declared dead on the scene.
"I can tell you this neighborhood is a solid, working-class neighborhood with great people in it, and I'm sure they were all shocked this morning to wake up to learn somebody had been killed in their area," Ernster said during a news briefing.
The St. Paul crime scene team spent the morning collecting and processing evidence while homicide detectives spoke with potential witnesses and tried to locate surveillance video that may have captured the fatal shooting. As of Wednesday morning, the investigation is ongoing and there are no known suspects.
Ernster told reporters there were additional incidents overnight involving gunfire, but said at this point it is unclear whether this case is related to any of the others.
