JORDAN, Minn. -- A suspect is in custody after an assault at a church in Jordan led to a manhunt.
Police say Hope Lutheran Church opened its doors this fall to those seeking sanctuary from the cold, but on Saturday night, that peace was broken.
Police say a man came into the building with a gun and hit his significant other on the head and then fled.
The incident sparked a manhunt that ended Sunday afternoon when police say they were able to apprehend the suspect.
Residents near the church like Kyle Watson were kept from their homes for more than hour as police searched for the man.
"We pulled up, got about a half way mile away from our house and we were told by the cops to turn around because they were searching for an armed gunman," said Watson.
Authorities were worried because the suspect was armed and considered dangerous. Police say the victim and her children are now in a safe and undisclosed location.
