Suspected burglary ends in fatal crash in Dakota County

DAKOTA COUNTY, Minn. — A suspected burglary ended in a fatal crash in Dakota County Thursday morning.

The county's sheriff's office responded to a report at around 10:40 a.m. of a suspected burglary at an outbuilding located in the 26000 block of Donnelly Avenue in Hampton Township.

The responding deputy found a vehicle backed up to the outbuilding and tried to block it with his squad car but the driver decided to flee and struck the deputy's vehicle, police said. The deputy was not injured.

The driver left the property at a high speed on a gravel road. The deputy followed, and as he got to the top of a hill, he saw the suspected vehicle had left the road and rolled into a field, officials said.

A man and a women were ejected from the vehicle. The man was found deceased and the woman sustained serious injuries.

The vehicle had been reported stolen from Minneapolis. The man who died has not been identified.

The incident remains under investigation.
