A man is dead after a fatal shooting on the 900 block of Newton Ave. N Tuesday. Police thought the suspects were hiding in an abandoned home nearby.

MINNEAPOLIS — Investigators are trying to identify suspects after a fatal shooting on the north side of Minneapolis Tuesday night.

Police say officers responded to reports of shots fired on the 900 block of Newton Ave. N just after 6:30 p.m. Upon arrival they found a man suffering from at least one gunshot wound. First responders immediately began lifesaving measures but the man did not survive.

On Thursday, the Hennepin County Medical Examiner identified the victim as 37-year-old Mikiyel Patton, of Minneapolis. The ME determined he died from multiple gunshot wounds.

Information gathered on scene led investigators to believe that a suspect or suspects were hiding in an abandoned home near the shooting scene. The MPD SWAT team was called in to surround the building and search inside, but it was eventually found to be empty.

Forensics specialists processed evidence from the scene while homicide investigators questioned potential witnesses. At this time no suspects are in custody.
