ST PAUL, Minn. — A handful of St. Paul Police squads are parked outside a blocked-off St. Paul gas station and officers are combing the scene for evidence after a man was shot and wounded early Tuesday.
It happened shortly after 4 a.m. outside the BP gas station at 1347 University Avenue West. Police spokesman Steve Linders says officers responded to reports of gunshots and found a man on the ground wounded. He was rushed to Regions Hospital and is expected to survive.
Police are trying to put together information on the victim. At this point it appears there are no suspects in custody.
Hamline is closed off at the intersection with University Ave. as investigators conduct their business.
A neighbor who lives near the scene told KARE 11's Ellery McCardle that there has been a significant spike in gunfire in recent days.
"Scared. And I know many residents around here are very frightened. Very frightened. Because it seems like it just keeps getting worse and worse and worse."
KARE 11 is on the scene and will have details as this story develops.
