Taekwondo instructor found guilty of attempted murder in shooting of Minneapolis Police CSI

A jury found Tim Amacher guilty of both attempted first-degree murder and aiding an offender Tuesday evening.

MINNEAPOLIS — Timothy Amacher, the ex-boyfriend and father of shooting victim Nicole Lenway’s child, was found guilty of attempted first-degree murder. The verdict was announced Tuesday evening after a jury deliberated for just over an hour.

The jury also found Amacher guilty of aiding an offender. Sentencing is scheduled for Jan. 18, 2023.

Amacher was charged after Lenway was shot twice outside of a supervised parenting center on University Avenue near the University of Minnesota.

Amacher and Lenway share a 5-year-old son and their custody battle has been contentious. Amacher's rights were recently reduced to supervised visits only, and the staff at FamilyWise would keep Amacher in one area while walking the child to Lenway in a designated pickup location, so the ex-couple would not interact.

Amacher's current girlfriend, Colleen Larson, has also been charged with first-degree attempted murder for her role in the shooting. She is scheduled to go on trial in January. She was a former taekwondo student of Amacher. Larson moved in with Amacher when she turned 18 and the two were dating at the time of the shooting.

Lenway, a forensic scientist with the Minneapolis Police Department, survived the point-blank shooting and has recovered, although she has permanent scars. Lenway, who works as a crime scene investigator for the Minneapolis Police Department, testified in the trial
