Truck driver facing charges after alleged road rage incident in Lakeville

The State Patrol says a driver called to report their vehicle being damaged by a semi driver swinging a hatchet.

LAKEVILLE, Minn. — A semi driver is facing potential criminal charges following an alleged road rage incident in Lakeville Wednesday.

The State Patrol tells KARE 11 it happened around 5:30 p.m. on a ramp off of I-35 and County Road 50. Troopers were dispatched to the location after a 911 call from a driver reporting that another motorist was damaging their vehicle with a hatchet due to a confrontation that took place on the freeway.

Video from MnDOT traffic cams shows a man getting out of a white semi-truck and approaching a dark-colored SUV in front of him. The driver of that vehicle can be seen trying to back up and get away, but the second man follows the dark vehicle. The subject is too small in the video to see whether damage is being done.

By the time troopers arrived, the semi had driven off, but Lakeville Police squads caught up with the driver down I-35 in New Market Township and pulled him over. The 40-year-old man was taken into custody and booked into the Dakota County Jail pending charges.
