COON RAPIDS, Minn. - The former treasurer of a metro high school hockey booster club is charged with theft-diverting public property for allegedly siphoning off $36,000 in funds.
A criminal complaint filed in Anoka County says 36-year-old Jennifer Leeanne Crosbie stole the money from the Coon Rapids Cardinal Hockey Red Line Club between May of 2016 and July of 2018. At that time the club president began to suspect Crosbie was embezzling from the booster club.
President Brian Knapp hired a private accounting firm to conduct a forensic audit and determined there were $36,176.16 in non-club related transactions, using accounts that only Crosbie had access to. Most of the transactions were cash withdrawals and purchases made at retailers and convenience stores.
Prosecutors say in a statement to police Crosbie admitted she stole the funds for personal use. If found guilty she faces a sentence of up to 20 years in prison, and up to a $100,000 fine.
