ST PAUL, Minn. — St. Paul Police Department is investigating a homicide after a woman was found unconscious and not breathing with a gunshot wound in a backyard.
Police say they responded to a call around 8:45 p.m. to the 1100 block of Bush Avenue on the East Side of St. Paul. The victim's daughter told dispatchers her mother had been shot in the head. When squads arrived officers found the 60-year-old woman in a backyard with a gunshot wound, unconscious and not breathing.
According to a press release from St. Paul police, officers performed lifesaving measures while securing the scene at the house. St. Paul Fire paramedics arrived, and declared the victim dead on the scene.
Family members who came to the home identified the victim as Theresa Janis. Relatives said Janis lived in the home with her daughter and grandchildren, ages 3, 4 and 5.
The children were at the home at the time of the shooting, but it’s unclear what they may have seen or heard, family members said.
Police say no arrests have been made, and ask anyone with information to call St. Paul Police at 651-266-5650.
This is St. Paul's 21st homicide of 2020.
