DULUTH, Minn. — A Duluth police officer was wounded, and a police K-9 and a suspect were fatally shot Sunday night as squads responded to reports of a domestic assault with a weapon
Officers were dispatched just before 6:30 p.m. to a home on the 1000 block of West Skyline Parkway. Squads arrived and quickly located the male suspect inside the residence, then began negotiations with him. After an hour of talks police say the suspect began firing, hitting and wounding one officer. During the volley the struck officer's K-9 partner Haas was hit and killed by a bullet.
An officer returned fire, a police spokesman says.Once officers gained access to the home and the room where the suspect was from police found him dead. At this point it is not clear whether the man was killed by a shot by the officer or from his own weapon.
The injured officer was treated and released from the hospital. Agents from the Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension (BCA) will conduct this investigation, which is often the case in officer-involved shootings.
More information on the case is expected Monday.
