Mpls. public schools launch bus tracking app

Here Comes The Bus allows parents and caregivers to get notifications when their child's bus is getting close to their stop.

MINNEAPOLIS — Parents and caregivers in the Minneapolis public school system now have a new bus tracking tool at their disposal-Here Comes The Bus

Here Comes The Bus, or HCTB, is a website and mobile tracker that uses GPS to monitor school buses. According to the Minneapolis Public School's website, the main functions of HCTB are:

  • Locating the child's bus before and after school
  • Get either an email or push notification when a bus gets close
  • Confirmation that the bus got to the bus stop and school

Parents can choose the distance from the bus to the stop themselves. If you need a 5 minute warning, or a 15 minute warning, it is possible to customize when a notification is sent out.

Remember, HCTB only tracks buses, not students. Field trips and athletic trips will not be tracked by the app. If a child has alternate bus stops, for partial daycare, shared custody or other situations, the HCTB may not be able to correctly show those routes.

To download and learn how to utilize the HCTB tool, visit the Minneapolis Public Schools website.
