ST. LOUIS PARK, Minn. — St. Louis Park Pubic Schools has found its next superintendent after its previous leader abruptly stepped down back in September.
On Monday, the district announced Dr. Carla Hines would be the next superintendent, following approval of her contract.
“After an extensive search, we're thrilled to announce Dr. Hines as our top choice for the next superintendent of St. Louis Park Public Schools,” said Board Chair Colin Cox in a press release. “While both finalists posed unique strengths, Dr. Hines’ experience and values aligned powerfully with the district’s mission and core values. Her educational leadership, dedication to student academic success, and vision for racial equity transformation is impressive and I'm confident she'll lead our district with integrity and passion, advancing our strategic plan.”
Dr. Hines is currently the associate superintendent at Eden Prairie Schools, after spending time as a principal in both Richfield and St. Paul districts. Dr. Hines also spent time as a Senior Director/Principal at Perpich Center for Arts and Education in Golden Valley after a two-year stint as the Dean of Students in the Burnsville-Eagan-Savage School District.
“I am humbled and elated by the opportunity to serve as the next Superintendent of St. Louis Park Public Schools," Dr. Hines said in a release. "With a steadfast commitment to see, empower, and inspire each student, I look forward to collaboratively shaping a future where every student's brilliance is realized and celebrated.”
The school board is scheduled to approve her contract at the March 26 school board meeting. She is expected to start no later than July 1.
Dr. Hines is taking over after Dr. Astein Osei abruptly resigned less than two weeks into the 2023-24 academic year began. A data request filed by KARE 11 revealed that a the district was investigating after one of its employees filed a sexual harassment complaint against Osei. Details of the investigation have not yet been released as the investigation is ongoing.
The data request also showed Osei's resignation was voluntary, and that the district has not taken any disciplinary action against Osei in response to the complaint. SLPPS Director of Student Services Tami Reynolds took filled in until October when Dr. Kate Maguire was hired as the interim superintendent for the remainder of the school year.
