HUTCHINSON, Minn. - Three people are in the hospital, one with serious injuries after police say a piece of equipment "malfunctioned" and "blew up" at the 3M plant in Hutchinson.
Hutchinson Police Chief Dan Hatten confirmed the incident happened around 1:30 p.m. Thursday. He added he doesn’t believe there was any structural damage to the building and that they’re still functioning. A 3M spokesperson says a piece of equipment became "upset in the cooling process."
Two of the injured were taken to Hutchinson Health. A third was taken to HCMC.
A 3M spokesperson says part of the plant is closed due to the investigation. 3M is not saying what was being produced.
