Breezy Point cabin destroyed by fire

Resort staff said the cabin is a total loss, along with two vehicles.

BREEZY POINT, Minn. - A cabin at Breezy Point Resort in northern Minnesota is a total loss after a fire Wednesday night.

Staff at the resort said the four-bedroom cabin, called the Lakeside Loft, is privately owned, but is also a rental unit. They said someone was staying there for the weekend, but no one was injured in the fire.

The staff said the cabin is a total loss, along with two vehicles.

Aric Larson, director of security at Breezy Point Resort, told KARE 11 News that he was notified of the fire at around 9:40 p.m. Wednesday. He says he arrived at the cabin and saw first responders already on scene, along with huge flames.

"They had to be 50, 60 foot tall," Larson KARE 11 reporter Ellery McCardle. "I got reports of people seeing them down the road a couple of miles away over the tree tops."

Larson says the cabin was supposed to be rented out pretty much every weekend this summer and that the owner of it recently did a remodel including a newer roof. Larson wasn't sure what caused the fire.

The fire comes just before the start of Memorial Day weekend, which marks the beginning of a busy season at Breezy Point Resort. He's reassuring vacationers who plan to stay at the resort this weekend.

"This is a safe resort we're here to take care of you and do our best. sometimes bad things happen and we do our best to power through it," said Larson.

The Crow Wing County Sheriff's Office confirmed the fire but has not provided further details. Breezy Point Resort is located in Breezy Point, Minnesota, about 20 miles north of Brainerd.
