EDEN PRAIRIE, Minn.- A fire that started in the garage of an Eden Prairie home quickly spread to cause significant damage early Friday.

Eden Prairie firefighters were called to the 9400 block of Olympia Drive around midnight, after the owner saw flames in his garage. By the time crews arrived, flames were leaping into the sky, and the blaze could be seen for miles.

Two people inside the 8,500-square-foot home escaped unharmed.

Eden Prairie Fire Chief George Esbensen said a number of local departments, including Excelsior, Minnetonka, Edina and Bloomington, were called in for support. He believes the blaze was fueled by gasoline inside vehicles parked in the garage.

Around 11 a.m., Eden Prairie crews were sent back to the home, after flames rekindled in the attic.

"We wound up with a very large loss fire," said Esbensen. "The fire had a very big head start. The house was not equipped with a residential fire sprinker system, which contributed dramatically to the loss."

There were no reports of any injuries to firefighters.
