Hennepin County Attorney Mike Freeman announced Thursday that a former Hennepin County employee was charged with making terroristic threats for phoning in a bomb threat to a public works building in Medina.
Anthony Romano, 65, of Minneapolis was charged with a count of terroristic threats-reckless disregard and one count of terroristic threats-explosives/incendiary device.
Roman is expected to make his first court appearance Friday afternoon.
The county attorney's office is seeking bail of $30,000.
Romano called the county's Central Mobile Equipment Division at around 10:00 a.m. Tuesday, according to the criminal complaint.
The woman who answered the call recognized Romano's voice from the years they have worked together, according to a news release from the Hennepin County Attorney's Office.
Romano asked to speak with the human resources manager but the woman told him the manager was not available, according to the news release.
Romano then told the woman to get out of the building because there was a bomb, he also said he and his girlfriend, who had working in the department until recently, were going to file a lawsuit against Hennepin County, the complaint states.
Romano hung up, called back a short time later, the same woman answered and this time he said there were bombs attached to the fleet of trucks outside the building, according to the complaint. The woman reported the threat to her manager.
After investigating, Hennepin County Sheriff’s deputies went to Romano’s house and arrested the same day. He admitted to calling the division but denied making threats.
